Wilhelm Wines

Wilhelm Wines began as a Hahndorf property owned by Oscar Wilhelm, a printmaker of German descent migrating during the early 20th century. He made prints of the local flora while tending to a fig orchard on the property. In recent years the property was found abandoned, turned into Wilhelm Wines and a vintage was planted over the remains of the orchard giving the wine a signature figgy taste.

I began my approach by carving studies of fig and grape leaves into lino blocks, to tie in Oscar’s printmaking history and layering these prints creates an autumnal leaf effect reminiscent of the iconic Hahndorf scenery. The use of saturated magenta visualises the sweet fig taste the Wilhelm Wines is famous for and the typography chosen for the logo is subtly inspired by the German style.

Lastly, I designed a carrier for the two bottles of wine with a wrap around sleeve  that is easy to produce with a recipe for Gluhwein (hot mulled wine) that uses the wine encased once again tying back to the German history of the location and winery.
